A much-loved restaurant in Greystones, Bochelli’s, has announced it is closing after more than two decades of trading in Church Road, Greystones. The owners, led by Declan McLoughlin and family, say they have been unable to sustain the business in the face of multiple headwinds:
-
Rising operating costs in the hospitality sector (food, utilities, rent)
-
A 20–25% drop in turnover, tied explicitly to the closure of the Greystones–Bray cliff walk and reduced visitor numbers (the family estimate a loss of more than 350,000 walkers per year)
-
Repeated disruption of the DART service on bank holidays, impacting tourism and weekend trade
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the family thanked generations of local and visiting customers for their support over 20 + years. The closure announcement triggered a wave of online tributes from people reminiscing about their memories at the restaurant.
