A video of devoted campaigner Sapphire McCarthy speaking out against proposed housing on greenbelt land in the S13 area of Sheffield has been released.
The message, recorded at a public meeting she organised, was sent to Sheffield City Council just hours before her tragic death. In the footage, Sapphire urged councillors to rethink plans for large-scale housing developments on greenfield land.
Since her passing, fellow residents have renamed the campaign group “Save S13 Greenbelt – The Sapphire McCarthy Campaign” in her honour. Members say they are determined to continue the fight against proposals to build:
-
860 homes off Bramley Lane.
-
870 homes on farmland off Finchwell Lane.
The group says it will continue pressing for the protection of greenbelt spaces in memory of Sapphire’s dedication.
