Chris Wilder fires ‘been coming’ warning as Sheffield United prepare for Stoke City

Stoke City head to Sheffield United this weekend looking to bounce back from their home loss to Hull City

Chris Wilder has challenged his Sheffield United players to maintain their positive results, as they haul themselves from danger.

Wilder’s Blades take on Stoke City at Bramall Lane this weekend, on the back successive wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Leicester City.

Last weekend’s 3-2 victory at the King Power, delivered after going 2-0 up inside four minutes, saw them move up to 19th in the table, having been in the relegation zone just a few days earlier.

They now face the Potters with the narrative around the club having changed but with Wilder exhorting more from his men.

“I have got a together group, I have got an honest group, they are fighting for each other,” he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“We’ve delivered on a huge, huge week for the football club and we’ve got to keep delivering – and that’s my challenge to the players. Got to keep going.

“We’re still not comfortable in the position that we’re in, but you’ve seen the division and we’ve just got to show that consistency right the way through our approach and our attitude Monday to Friday.

“There’s still an incredible amount of football to be played in this division. We don’t get ahead of ourselves.

“It’s been a great week, but it’s been coming, I’ve got to say, and I think everybody who’s watched us intently has seen this right the way through.

“We’ve still got work to do, I’ve been in the game long enough, been hurt enough times to know that we haven’t cracked anything, but we’re nicely working a way into the situations that I want individually.

“I don’t think anybody really outside the game will understand the commitment and the amount of effort and work that everybody puts into preparing the boys and giving them the opportunity of producing their best performances from a physical point of view.

“The work that goes on away from the lights, from a tactical work, individual unit meetings, game plan meetings, everything goes and I’ve got a fabulous group to work with.”
