A planning inspector has dismissed an appeal for a major housing scheme in Dronfield, Derbyshire.
Developers W. Redmile and Sons Ltd had sought permission to build 132 homes on sloping greenfield land near Burns Drive, Southfield Drive, and Chesterfield Road.
The proposal was originally refused by North East Derbyshire District Council’s Labour-led planning committee, which ruled the design was out of keeping with the surrounding area and would have an unacceptable impact on neighbouring residents.
After the developers lodged an appeal, a Government-appointed Planning Inspector reviewed the scheme and formally dismissed it. The inspector raised concerns including:
-
The road layout, which was said to create a harsh effect.
-
A lack of improvements for cyclists.
-
Limited connectivity through the site.
The decision means the housing scheme will not go ahead in its current form.
