Sheffield’s Radio Essentials is part of one of the fastest-growing local digital platforms in the UK, leading a new era of truly local media for Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
On air since February 2023, we have been dedicated to bringing everything local back to the heart of our communities. From breaking news and live travel to events, great music and real community stories, if it matters in Sheffield or South Yorkshire, you will hear it here.
We are proud to be Sheffield’s only truly local commercial radio station, created and run in the city for the people of Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster. As part of the wider Essentials Digital Platform, we continue to grow rapidly across radio, apps, social media, digital news and community partnerships.
Our mission is simple: to save local radio and rebuild community connection in the digital age. At a time when national broadcasters are closing local shows and centralising output, we are committed to doing the opposite by investing in local voices, local pride and local stories. Our aim is to become South Yorkshire’s most trusted source of news, information and entertainment, seven days a week.
Our music is shaped by Sheffield’s identity. We play the biggest hits from the 70s to today, alongside the artists who define our region’s unique sound, including The Human League, ABC, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and The Makers, Def Leppard and Heaven 17.
