Organisers say the move is about protecting the future of one of the city’s most important independent cultural venues and continuing its legacy for the next generation.
The venue has always operated independently, without grants or council funding, relying instead on ticket sales, club nights and the support of its community.
Organisers are encouraging supporters to donate what they can, with suggested contributions of £5, £10 or £20. They say if everyone who has ever visited gave the price of a pint, the future of the venue could be secured.
What the funding will support:
Securing a new venue through deposit and lease or freehold costs
Building the space, including stage, sound, lighting and technical infrastructure
Creating fully accessible facilities
Preserving The Leadmill’s heritage, including its iconic neon sign
Commitment from the organisers:
The team says 100% of funds raised, minus standard Crowdfunder transaction fees, will be held in a ring-fenced account dedicated solely to securing and establishing a new venue.
They say the campaign is not about starting again, but about continuing something that has played a major role in Sheffield’s music, nightlife and cultural scene for decades.
The aim is to reopen the doors and welcome the next generation of visitors — and the next 10 million people through one of the city’s best-known venues.
